Numerical methods for the Euler equations of fluid dynamics
Topics discussed include the foundations of numerical schemes for solving the Euler equations, steady state calculations, finite element methods, and incompressible flow calculations and special numerical techniques. Particular consideration is given to upwind schemes using various formulations of the Euler equations; a two-dimensional Lagrange-Euler technique for gas dynamics; the numerical solution of the Euler equations for compressible inviscid fluids (with application to aircraft flying at transonic speeds); and vortex-sheet capturing in the numerical solution of compressible inviscid flows. Finally, attention is given to the simulation of the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability of a supersonic slip surface with the piecewise-parabolic method.
