Prospects for reliability centered maintenance

This paper summarizes recently completed EPRI-sponsored research on reliability centered maintenance (RCM), describes the current research which has evolved from these early projects, and indicates the reasons for the subsequent rapid growth of utility interest in RCM. The paper begins with a brief summary of the RCM process as it is used in EPRI projects. The paper concludes with a discussion of the reasons why RCM can play a significant role in preventive maintenance planning and evaluation programs in the very near future.
