Southern California Air-Quality Study: Toxic air contaminants, Task 1. Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6959078

As part of the Southern California Air Quality Study (SCAQS), intensive measurements of peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN) have been carried out by electron capture gas chromatography (EC-GC). Under the conditions employed for PAN measurements, all chromatograms of ambient air recorded during SCAQS also contained information on ambient levels of toxic chlorinated hydrocarbons. The objective of the project was to retrieve this information, i.e., to identify these chlorinated hydrocarbons to carry out EC-GC laboratory calibrations under conditions identical to those used during SCAQS, and to use the calibration data to calculate ambient levels of toxic chlorinated hydrocarbons during SCAQS (June to December 1987).
