Cape Blanco Wind Farm Feasibility Study : Technical Report, No. 4, Electrical Engineering.

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6958712
The purpose of this report is to present preliminary design information on the electrical engineering aspects for the Cape Blanco Wind Farm Feasibility Study. Since the wind turbine generators themselves are presumed to be already designed, this report includes the basic equipment requirements, cost estimates, general system studies, construction timetables, and drawings for the balance of the electrical plant and tieline interconnection. Also included is a discussion of the design philosophy employed in making these studies. The original plans for the possible development of an 80-MW wind farm at Cape Blanco involved investigating the feasibility of five different wind-turbine machine layouts. Ultimately, only two machine types were selected for study: the FloWind (170-kW vertical axis) and the MOD-2 (2.5-MW horizontal axis) wind-turbine machines. The selection of these two wind-turbine machine layouts provided for a comparison of smaller units (FloWind) to that of larger units (MOD-2) for an equivalent-sized wind farm sysatem.
