This paper is a collection of mini-papers presented at a panel session held at the 1986 Winter Meeting of the IEEE Power Engineering Society. The mini-papers discuss the experiences of five electric utilities in North America and Europe in the area of instrumentation for monitoring power system dynamic performance during major disturbances. The discussions focus on the requirements of the individual utilities and address important questions as to the usefulness of disturbance recording, past and present instrumentation practices, and future plans.
