EGT expecting stronger CHP market

For European Gas Turbines, as for the rest of the industry, 1993 was a patchy year. The total number of megawatts of gas turbine sold was down by 20%, from 4073 MW in 1992 to 3279 MW last year. Sales of eight MS9001FA (for combined cycle schemes in England and Hong Kong) accounted for almost half of that total capacity. Biomass crops, and gasification of wood chips and sawmill wastes, is gaining interest in some parts of Europe and EGT has a project in Varnamo, Sweden, with a 4.5-MW Typhoon fuelled by low-Btu, wood-derived gas. Dry low-NOx burners are now available for all EGT heavy frame gas turbines, and are generally preferred by operators in countries where emission regulations are in force. 3 figs.
