Low temperature thermoelectrochemical system and method
A thermoelectrochemical system for generating a continuous electrical current from a heat input at a predetermined temperature below about 250/sup 0/C, is described comprising: (a) an electrochemical cell having a cathode compartment and an anode compartment, the compartments having a common ion permeable separation wall; (b) a hydrogen ion reacting cathode and a hydrogen ion reacting anode located within the cathode and anode compartments, respectively, (c) a cathode fluid comprising a chosen Bronsted acid, located in the cathode compartment and in contact with the cathode wherein hydrogen gas or water is generated or collected, and the acid is consumed during generation of the electrical current; (d) an anode fluid comprising a chosen Bronsted base, located in the anode compartment and in contact with the anode.
