The Nueces County Navigation District's proposed inshore deepwater port, known as Deeport, would be located near Port Aransas, Tex., would be designed to handle supertankers from 250,000-470,000 dwt; would cost an estimated $430 million, and would involve deepening a 10 mi waterway to 80 ft and a 2300 ft wide turning basin to 73 ft. LOOP Inc. has awarded Sofec Inc. a $10 million contract to design and fabricate three single-anchor leg mooring systems for its deepwater port off Louisiana. The mooring system, due for delivery in 1979, will be designed to moor tankers up to 700,000 dwt and allow offloading rates of up to 175,000 bbl/hr. The Texas Deepwater Port Authority's (TDPA) takeover of Seadock Inc.'s deepwater port project permits required for construction of the port, the planned tariffs for use of the port, and a TDPA study indicating the increased need for the port are discussed.
