Air-fuel ratio feedback control method for internal combustion engines

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6954277
A method of controlling in a feedback manner the air-fuel ratio of an air-fuel mixture being supplied to an internal combustion engine having an exhaust passage and an exhaust gas ingredient concentration sensor arranged in the exhaust passage, wherein a basic value of a fuel quantity to be supplied to the engine is determined, a correction coefficient which varies in response to output from the exhaust gas ingredient concentration sensor is determined, and the basic value of the fuel quantity is corrected by means of the correction coefficient, when the engine is operating in an air-fuel ratio feedback control effecting region is described comprising the steps of: (1) determining whether or not the engine is operating in a predetermined idling region; (2) calculating a first mean value of the correction coefficient determined during a period during which the engine is operating in the predetermined idling region, when the engine is determined to be operating in the predetermined idling region; (3) determining whether or not the engine is operating in a predetermined condition accelerating from the predetermined idling region; (4) calculating a second mean value of the correction coefficient and then storing and holding it when the engine is determined to be operating in the predetermined accelerating condition; and (5) effecting the air-fuel ratio feedback control using the stored and held second mean value as an initial value of the correction coefficient, when the engine subsequently enters the predetermined accelerating condition form the predetermined idling region.
