A one-piece, cold-formed rocker arm of the cam-follower type is described comprising a one-piece metal body having a rounded recess in a first end portion thereof to receive an end of a lifter post on which the rocker arm can pivot. The end portion thereof has an opening extending therethrough communicating with the rounded recess and the opening being flared outwardly in a direction away from the recess to form an oil reservoir. The body has an additional recess of rectangular transverse cross-sectional shape at a second end portion thereof to receive an end of a valve stem. The body has an intermediate generally convex portion facing away from the recesses. The convex portion has a shallow rectangular recess therein defined by four peripheral side walls. The body has a shallow projection of rectangular shape in longitudinal cross section on the side directly opposite the shallow recess, a long-wearing metal insert in the shallow recess to be engaged by a cam, the metal insert being prevented from sideways movement by the side walls of the body, and means affixing the metal insert in the shallow recess.
