This conference presents information on the following topics: patterns in the stability of the lower oxidation states of the actinides and lanthanides; oxidation of trivalent americium, curium, and terbium in solutions of sodium paratungstate; interaction of Am(V) with certain reducing agents in the presence of solid-phase catalysts; effect of quartz on thermal stability of AmO/sub 2/ and CmO/sub 2/; solvent-extraction methods of isolating, purifying, and separating the transplutoinium elements; behavior of americium, curium, and certain fission products in fluoride melts in the presence of solid extraction agents; solid extraction agents in extracting actinoid elements from nitric acid solution; using solid extractants to extract, concentrate, and purify TPE; urgent problems of the radiobiology of the transplutonium elements; sorptionand migration of transplutonium elements in natural systems; comparative behavior of americium and plutonium in wastewater; and the problem of burying radioactive wastes containing transplutonium elements.
