In an apparatus for topping trees, the combination of a frame and an elongated rail supported at one end from frame contained a carriage mounted on rail for longitudinal movement therealong, means for positively moving carriage longitudinally with the carriage defining an upper longitudinal central recess in which at least one tree trunk could be positioned. A pair of topping blades was mounted to either side of said central recess, each blade pivoting about an axis substantially normal to the direction of carriage movement.
