Public health assessment for Cross Brothers Pail Recycling (Pembroke), Pembroke Township, Kankakee County, Illinois, Region 5. Cerclis No. ILD980792303. Final report
The Cross Brothers Pail Recycling National Priorities List (NPL) site is situated in the Pembroke Township, Kankakee County, approximately 12 miles east of Kankakee, Illinois. Groundwater in the Kankakee Aquifer is contaminated with volatile and semivolatile organic compounds beneath and downgradient of the site while on-site soil is contaminated with volatile and semivolatile organic compounds and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Exposure pathways of potential concern include incidental ingestion of contaminated soil by on-site workers and trespassers. The site currently poses no apparent public health hazard because human exposure to contaminated media is not occurring at levels of health concern. In the more distant future, the groundwater plume could be a potential health concern to downgradient wells if remedial action is not implemented.
