This paper deals with a study of the effect of the concentrations of phosphorus and copper on the radiation embrittlement of low-alloy welds using using the method of variable alloying. The radiation-induced increase in the critical embrittlement temperature (ductile-brittle transition temperature) was used as a criterion of embrittlement. The observed weak effect of phosphorus concentration on the radiation embrittlement of the experimental welds generally agrees with the well-known concepts on the grain size dependence of the impurity-aided intergranular embrittlement of steels and it can probably serve as an indirect confirmation for the intergranular segregation mechanism of the effect of phosphorus on the radiation embrittlement of low-alloy steels.
