A method is described for controlling loose or incompetent sands and the like in a subterranean formation. A hydrocarbon liquid, having a consolidating fluid dissolved and dispersed therein to control the viscosity and spread of the consolidating fluid, is introduced into the formation and the consolidating fluid is caused to harden, thereby consolidating loose sands into a permeable mass.
