The commonly occurring types of rock and soil as well as many types of geological structures and geological maps are described. Throughout the book care is taken to focus on the relationship between geology and geomechanics. For this reason emphasis has been placed on the geological processes that bear directly upon composition, structure and mechanics of soils and rocks, and the movement of ground water. SI units are used throughout.
