Increased emphasis on toxic emissions has focused attention on the metals and organics compounds emitted from sewage sludge incinerators. These units are always located in urban areas and operate with limited knowledge or control of the composition of the material being incinerated. Better ways of estimating atmospheric emissions of hazardous compounds from sewage sludge incinerators are needed to improve the design and sizing of emission control equipment and to determine ambient air impacts of the emissions. Emission data are available on the more common air pollutants (such as particulate, SO{sub x}, and NO{sub x}), but information for determining emissions of trace pollutants such as metals and organic compounds is very limited. This paper presents data on metals and organic compound emissions obtained from the literature and from emission test data.
