A heat exchanger is described comprising an inner tube coaxially disposed within an outer tube so as to define a space therebetween. The inner tube has an end extending beyond an end of the outer tube. First and second spaced plates have apertures therein and define a chamber therebetween. The end of the inner tube is disposed within the aperture in the first plate and is connected to the first plate and the end of the outer tube being disposed within the aperture of the second plate. A ferrule is disposed over the inner tube and within the outer tube at the end of the outer tube within the aperture of the second plate, the ferrule having a slit therein. The inner tube, the ferrule and the outer tube all are expanded within the aperture of the second plate such that the outer tube is connected to the second plate and such that the slit in the ferrule is expanded and defines a passageway that connects the chamber with the space between the tubes to vent such space to the chamber.
