Construction of the test facility including plenum and ductwork has been completed and the heat pump has been operated. In the interest of maintaining comparable test conditions a single compressor with switchover capability between the fluidized bed and the existing heat exchangers is to be used. A computer program simulation of the York heat pump gives results for COP which are too high. Heat transfer measurements for the design of the fluidized bed heat exchangers using a bare tube show an increase in heat transfer coefficient of about five times for air velocity of 0.5 meters per second using spherical glass beads 245 microns in diameter.
