Heat transfer to tubes in freeboard space of fluidized-bed combustors. Progress report, February 1, 1982-August 1, 1982

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6936315
Progress is reported in experimental studies of the heat transfer characteristics of tubes located in the freeboard region of fluidized beds. The objectives of this research are to: obtain experimental data for heat transfer in freeboard region for single tubes at room temperature and at FBC operating temperatures; determine the effect of operating variables (gas velocity, tube elevation, particle size, particle density, etc.) on heat transfer coefficients; develop on experimental method for determinating the dominant heat transfer mechanisms in freeboard region, from solid contact measurements, in room temperature bed; and derive phenomenological models and correlations. The test equipment has been assembled and initial results for heat transfer coefficients at temperatures from 25/sup 0/C to 750/sup 0/C and flow rates of 1.5 and 3.0 m/s are presented. (LCL)
