I consider some applications of baryon chiral perturbation theory in the heavy fermion formulation. The electric and magnetic polarizabilities of the neutron and the proton are in good agreement with the available data. Predictions are made for the nucleon spin-flip Compton amplitude and for the hyperon polarizabilities. Then, I discuss a modification of the pion electro-production theorem of Nambu, Lurie, and Shrauner. This novel pion loop effect closes the discrepancy between the values of the nucleon axial radius determined from (anti)neutrino-proton scattering and pion electroproduction data. Some remarks on the chiral corrections to the [ital S]-wave [pi][ital N] scattering lengths are made.
