EPR study of the in situ reduction of a vanadium-molybdenum oxide catalyst by allyl alcohol

Journal Article · · Kinet. Catal. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6930217
The reduction reaction of a V-Mo oxide catalyst by allyl alcohol has been studied in situ using EPR spectroscopy. The active sites involved in the reduction appear to be V/sup 5 +/ ions, since for every oxidized alcohol molecule one V/sup 5 +/ atom is consumed. Vacant sites are created under the reaction conditions, and electrons migrate or diffuse to the inner volume of the catalyst as oxygen ions migrate to the catalyst surface and regenerate the active sites.
