Inclusive annihilation of a polarized e/sup +/e/sup -/ pair with two detected hadrons

The inclusive annihilation of a polarized e/sup +/e/sup -/ pair with two detected hadrons in the final state (e/sup +/e/sup -/..-->..h/sub 1/h/sub 2/X) is considered for the general case. The annihilation cross section is expressed in terms of five structure functions which describe the transition ..gamma..*..-->..h/sub 1/h/sub 2/X. In addition, the partial widths of the corresponding decay of the virtual photon are introduced for various photon polarizations and the annihilation cross section is expressed in terms of these widths. Angular correlations of the detected hadrons are analyzed in terms of the structure functions and the partial widths. It is shown that the most information can be obtained by studying the azimuthal angular dependence in the annihilation of a longitudinally polarized e/sup +/e/sup -/ pair. The density matrix of the virtual photon and its polarization multipole moments are also given.
