Electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility in BiCaSrCu/sub 2/O/sub y/

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. B: Condens. Matter; (United States)
Electrical-resistivity and static magnetic-susceptibility measurements were performed on a new type of high-T/sub c/ superconductor BiCaSrCu/sub 2/O/sub y/ (yapprox. =6.4) in the temperature range 70 Kless than or equal toT< = 310 K. The stoichiometry of this compound is described as BiCaSr(Cu/sup 2+//sub 0.1/Cu/sup 3+//sub 0.9/)/sub 2/O/sub 6.4/. The electrical resistivity shows superconductivity below T/sub c/ = 73.9 K, and undergoes a steplike change at 110 K, suggesting a high-T/sub c/ phase. The linear temperature dependence of the resistivity is observed in the temperature range 130 Kless than or equal toTless than or equal to254 K. The susceptibility shows a Curie-Weiss behavior with FTHETA = -113.1 K and P/sub e//sub f//sub f/ = 0.56..mu../sub B//mol Cu, because of antiferromagnetic exchange interaction between localized Cu/sup 2+/ spins. From a temperature-independent susceptibility, the electronic specific heat ..gamma../sub el/ and the density of states D(E/sub F/) are determined as ..gamma../sub el/ = 12.0 mJ/mol Cu K/sup 2/ and D(E/sub F/) = 5.09 states/eV Cu atom.
