Chinese experiences with unusual animal behavior as possible indication of impending earthquakes is briefly summarized. Unusual behavior before several earthquakes is described. In one ecperiment with pigeons, nerves between a portion of the leg extremely sensitive to mechanical vibrations and the nerve center were cut; prior to a moderate earthquake these pigeons remained calm, while birds with normal connections became startled and flew away.
