Thermal power plants that burn fuel oils emit into the atmosphere sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, as well as solid particles. The latter has not been adequately studied at present. A study was conducted to determine the amount of dust in the flue gas at various boiler operating conditions. It was determined that the overall dust content of flue gases is largely dependent on the boiler operating conditions and whether or not the boiler heating surfaced are being cleaned mechanically. An expression is proposed for estimating the dust content of flue gases in relation to the boiler operating conditions.
