Hydrogen-bridge trinuclear nitrosyl carbonyl tungstate: H[sub 2]W[sub 3](CO)[sub 13](NO)[sup [minus]]

Treatment of HW[sub 2](CO)[sub 7](THF)[sub 2](NO) with P[sup t]Bu[sub 3] gives HW[sub 2](CO)[sub 8](P[sup t]Bu[sub 3])(NO) (1), [HP[sup t]PBu[sub 3]][HW[sub 2](CO)[sub 10]] (2), and [HP[sup t]PBu[sub 3]][([mu]-H)[sub 2]W[sub 3](CO)[sub 13](NO)] (3). The anion ([mu]-H)[sub 2]W[sub 3](CO)[sub 13](NO)[sup [minus]](3[sup [minus]]) could be more conveniently prepared and isolated as [PPn][([mu]-H)[sub 2]W[sub 3](CO)[sub 13](NO)] (4) from the reaction of HW[sub 2](CO)[sub 9](NO) with [PPN][HW(CO)[sub 5]] (PPN[sup +] = (Ph[sub 3]P)[sub 2]N[sup +]). Complex 3 reacts with a nucleophile L to form [HP[sup t]Bu[sub 3]][([mu]-H)[sub 2]W[sub 3](CO)[sub 12](L)(NP)] (5, L = PMe[sub 3]; 6, L = PPh[sub 3]; 7, L = P(OEt)[sub 3]; 8, L = MeNC). Crystal data for 5: C[sub 27]H[sub 37]NO[sub 13]P[sub 2]W[sub 3]; Cc (monoclinic); a = 19.275(5), b = 31.730(4), c = 12.948(2) [angstrom]; [beta] = 91.22(2)[degrees]; Z = 8; R = 0.030, R[sub w] = 0.030.
