The authors investigate the effect of the technological parameters on the deposition process, the deposit quality, and the yield of zinc selenide. Metallic zinc of the chemically pure grade and hydrogen selenide synthesized by the method previously recorded from elemental selenium and hydrogen were used. The deposition was carried out in a quartz reactor equipped with two independent heaters. It was found that at 650-800 C and a total pressure of 2.7-18.6 kPa in the system a heterogeneous reaction takes place on the substrate surface forming dense zinc selenide layer. It is shown that the deposition process of ZnSe is controlled by mass transfer under the experimental conditions. It is indicated by both the high deposition rates and the nonuniform thicknesses of the deposits.
