Journal Article · · Annu. Book ASTM Stand.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6922234
A mass spectrometric method is described for the determination of the distribution of aromatic compounds in naphthas. The method is applicable to naphthas boiling up to 350/sup 0/F. The mass spectrometer is calibrated using standard samples of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, p-, m-, o-xylene, isopropylbenzene, n-propylbenzene, 1-methyl-2-ethylbenzene, 1-methyl-3-ethylbenzene, 1-methyl-4-ethylbenzene, 1,2,3-trimethylbenzene, 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, and 1,2,5-trimethylbenzene. A volume of sample sufficient to give a pressure of 30 to 60 ..mu..m is injected into the inlet system of the spectrophotometer, and the spectrum is recorded. The recorded spectrum is compared with the spectrum of standards. The calculation of composition of the sample is described in detail. (BLM)
