South Neill (Odom Lime) field--Nolan and Fisher Counties, Texas

Journal Article · · Bull. South Tex. Geol. Soc.; (United States)

The S. Neill Field extends from S. central Fisher County into N. central Nolan County about 5 miles northeast of Sweetwater, Texas. The main producing zone is the Odom Lime of Pennsylvanian age; however, there is some minor production from the Strawn Sand which occurs stratigraphically above the Odom. The discovery well for the field was the J.H. Helland No. 1 Cartwright drilled in Nov. 1970 in which the top of the Odom Lime was encountered at a depth of 5,674 ft. Between its discovery and April 1, 1974, the field has produced 2,463,753 bbl of oil and 2,153,000 Mcf of gas from a total of 59 wells. Geologically, the S. Neill Field is located on the central portion of the Eastern Shelf, a paleogeographic feature that lies on the older Concho platform along the E. flank of the Midland Basin. The Eastern Shelf was a relatively stable tectonic platform developed on the margin of the sediment starved Midland Basin during Late Pennsylvanian and Early Permian times. Eastward lay the Ouachita Mt.; north of the shelf is the Wichita Structural System in S. Oklahoma; and southward the shelf is deflected around the Llano uplift.
