Well stimulation in the North Sea: a survey

Conference · · Soc. Pet. Eng. AIME, Pap.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6920819
In the past 6 yr, widespread use of well-stimulation techniques has been made in the gas wells of the southern North Sea Basin. Generally speaking, wells in the Indefatigable and Leman fields (Rotliegendes Formation) require a treatment for formation damage removal only. West Sole field (Rotliegendes Formation) wells require fracture stimulation; Hewett (Bunter and Hewett Sandstone) and Viking field (Rotliegendes Formation) well achieve optimum production without stimulation or a treatment for damage removal. Well stimulation practices in the North Sea are surveyed. Matrix acidizing and fracturing with a seawater-based fluid are described. In many cases, a productivity increase of several hundred percent has been achieved at under 7% of the well costs.
