Origin of a possible diffuse emission at 511 keV

Conference · · AIP Conf. Proc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6920745
The latest observational results on the 511 keV annihilation radiation have suggested a possible diffuse origin for this emission: Share et al.-. Recently Ramaty and Lingenfelter have interpreted these observations in terms of a variable point source and a diffuse interstellar source of positrons; they have given an evaluation of /sup 26/Al and /sup 56/Co contribution to the diffuse 511 keV flux while that of /sup 44/Ti has been given more recently by Woosley. Here are discussed the nature and distribution of the various e/sup +/ sources. It is shown that the diffuse 511 keV emission can be explained by nucleosynthesis of galactic SN and novae.
