1s-2p excitation cross sections of hydrogenlike ions by electron impact in the Coulomb-Born (CB) and Coulomb-Born-Oppenheimer (CBO) approximations have been evaluated in a straightforward manner, avoiding the use of partial-wave analysis. Results for different hydrogenlike ions, with Z = 2, 3, 6, 10, and 50 are thus obtained up to an incident electron energy of ten times the excitation threshold, with little computational effort. The results for He/sup +/ ions are compared with available experimental data.
