Effect of curvature dependency correction for the surface tension on the result of pore distribution analysis

It has been found that the Broekhoff-de Boer equation can be derived rigorously from the Kelvin equation. Also, as this equation includes a surface tension, term, an investigation has been made on the effect of curvature dependency correction to this term. The ultimate purpose of this equation is to apply it to the pore distribution analysis of porous materials. Many of them have a pore of average radius ranging from 30 to 100 Angstrom. Accordingly, when this correction is made, the result of pore distribution analysis is expected to be quite different from the one without such correction. Also, it is shown that the surface tension of the adsorbed layer should be taken as a curvature-dependent function when the Broekhoff-de Boer equation is used in calculating the thickness of physiosorbed layers. The thickness calculated in this way is larger than the one calculated by assuming the surface tension is independent of the curvature. The discrepancy becomes greater as the radius of the curvature of the adsorbent surface decreases.
