Corrosion of phosphoric acid fuel cell stack components

Conference · · Proc. - Electrochem. Soc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6918935

Polymers, polymer-coated metals, polymer-graphite composites and different carbon materials are being considered for many of the fuel cell components. Exposure to concentrated phosphoric acid in the fuel cell environment and to high anodic potential results in corrosion. Relative corrosion rates of these materials, failure modes, plausible mechanisms of corrosion and the improvement in corrosion of these materials are discussed.
