Optical-model description of /sup 16/O + /sup 28/Si elastic scattering at backward angles

The large, oscillating backward angle cross sections that have been observed in recent /sup 16/O + /sup 28/Si elastic data at E (/sup 16/O) = 50 and 55 MeV are reproduced in an optical-model analysis using Woods-Saxon potentials.
