Exclusion of quasi-bound e/sup +/e/sup -/ states at MeV energies within the framework of QED

Journal Article · · Ann. Phys. (N.Y.); (United States)
We give general arguments that no narrow quasi-bound e/sup +/e/sup -/ state can exist above 2m/sub e/. We extend the virial theorem of QED quasi-bound states and show that corrections due to renormalization and due to the fact that a resonance is not an energy eigenstate are small. A ''magnetically bound'' e/sup +/e/sup -/ state with energy above 2m/sub e/ would violate this extended virial theorem. copyright 1988 Academic Press, Inc.
