This patent describes an improvement in a process for selectively plugging permeable zones in subterranean formations or subterranean leaks wherein a crosslinked gel formed from a water soluble polysaccharide is injected into the permeable zone or the site of the subterranean leak. The improvement comprising effecting cross-linking of the gel with a zirconium diamine chelate.
