Compensation of solenoid detectors
Technical Report

OSTI ID:6909499
Solenoids used in colliding beam detectors must be compensated primarily to eliminate coupling between vertical and horizontal betatron motions. It is also necessary that the tune shift introduced by the compensator not be excessive. For all cases considered here the detector is assumed to be a uniform solenoid of field strength B/sub o/ and half length /ell//sub o/. The compensating coil of length /ell//sub c/ extends to a maximum distance L from the intersection point. We will consider compensating fields which are either uniform or programmed longitudinally to minimize the tune shift. 3 figs.
