On the basis of data from an investigation of the phase composition of silicomolybdenum, titanomolybdenum, and phosphomolybdenum oxide catalysts and their catalytic properties in propylene and methanol oxidation reactions, it has been shown that in the traditional synthesis of oxide catalysts, at least two types of molybdenum-containing compounds are formed, stable under the conditions of reaction: polycompounds of molybdenum (heteropolyacids, their salts, and products of their reversible dehydration) and compounds based on molybdic acid (simple molybdates, MoO/sub 3/). These compounds differ substantially in their redox and catalytic properties.
