The authors studied the kinetic principals of the hydrogenation of pyridine on Rh black and rhodium catalysts applied to aluminum, silicon, and magnesium oxides at high hydrogen pressures. A comparison of the specific activities of the investigated catalysts in the region in which the reaction is first order in hydrogen (at 2 MPa) shows that with respect to W/sub sp/ per unit mass of the catalyst they are arranged in the order Rh black > Rh/SiO/sub 2/ > Rh/Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ > Rh/MgO; with respect to specific activity per unit mass of rhodium this order remains within the applied catalysts, while Rh black occupies the last place in the order in this case.
