Forced convection within circular tubes, subjected to an axially variable wall heat flux, is analytically studied. The integral transform method is employed, in conjunction with a splitting-up procedure, to yield exact expressions for the temperature distributions and related Nusselt numbers along the thermal entry region. Two specific situations of practical interest are considered for illustrating the approach, involving both sinusoidal and exponential variations of the prescribed heat flux along the duct length, for laminar and turbulent flow. The convergence behavior of the proposed solutions is demonstrated and previously reported solutions are critically examined.
