Office of Inspector General semiannual report to Congress, October 1, 1989--March 31, 1990
This semiannual report is being submitted to Congress via the Secretary by the Department's Office of Inspector General (OIG), pursuant to the provisions of the Inspector General Act of 1978, as amended. During the 6-month period ending March 31, 1990, we continued to focus our attention on major issues affecting Department mission and operations, including environment, safety and health, oversight and control of management and operating contractors, nuclear waste management, operations office management, and reimbursable work. We believe that the audits, inspections, and investigations summarized in this Semiannual Report are important tolls which are useful in measuring the Department's management accountability. In keeping with our responsibilities, we will continue to provide detailed analyses and recommendations highlighting areas where Departmental efficiency and effectiveness may need improvement. 18 figs.
