Float for wave energy harvesting device

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6908089
A float is described for supporting a submerged device in a body of water which comprises: a buoyant conical member capable of floating on the body of water with its base above the surface of the body of water and its apex submerged in the body of water; a cap means for essentially sealing the interior of the conical member to ingress of water through the base of the conical member into the interior of the conical member. The cap means is located on the base of the conical member; device connecting means for pivotally and rotatively connecting the device to the conical member. The device connecting means is located on the apex of the conical member whereby the device submerged in the body of water extends from the apex of the conical member; and the device connecting means includes pivoting means for pivotally connecting the device to the conical member. The device is capable of pivoting with respect to the conical member in response to movement of one of the device and the conical member with respect to the other of the device and the conical member under the influence of wave and tidal motion of the body of water.
