Air cleaner for engine
An air cleaner is described for air being admitted to the suction port of a carburetor of a gasoline engine, comprising: a housing including a cover cooperating with a portion of the engine to define a suction chamber, the carburetor being enclosed within the chamber and having its suction port communicating therewith, openings in the housing leading from the suction chamber to the surrounding atmosphere, a fabric filter positioned at the openings to filter air passing therethrough, wall means spaced inwardly from the filter, the wall means cooperating with the filter to define a first passageway which surrounds the carburetor and which is isolated from the suction chamber, and a second passageway connecting the first passageway to the suction chamber, the arrangement of the passageways being such that air admitted to and suction sounds emitted from the suction port are caused to follow a circuitous path between the openings and the suction port.
