Coherent and fully turbulent modes of electron density fluctuations in a cylindrical magnetized plasma are investigated using a new simplified CO/sub 2/ laser forward scattering technique. In our small-angle scattering system a diffraction pattern is used as local oscillator for homodyne photomixing. Self-excited density fluctuations n-italic-tilde(K, ..omega..) of a He plasma have been measured in the parameter range 3 cm/sup -1/less than or equal toKless than or equal to24 cm/sup -1/ and 20 kHzless than or equal to..omega../2..pi..less than or equal to500 kHz.
