Alaska looks seaward: oil seekers turn to the Beaufort and Bering Seas

The first real Bering Sea exploration efforts began in the 1984-85 drilling seasons. Drilling activities are reviewed for the Norton, St. George, and Navarin basins of this area. The Beaufort Sea area yielded the first offshore oil in January, 1984. Drilling and development activities in both Eastern and Western Beaufort are outlined. It is concluded that despite challenges, Alaska offshore will continue to see vigorous activity for years to come.
