Lower hybrid suppression of drift waves in a plasma cylinder

Drift waves in a cylindrical plasma column with an exponential density profile have a Bessel function mode structure and are linearly unstable because of finite Larmor radius effects. In the presence of a lower hybrid eigenmode pump, these modes suffer a nonlinear frequency upshift because of the ponderomotive force and tend to be stabilized when k/sub 0//sub z/>k/sub z/.
