The preparation of a reduced uranocene derivative, potassium bis((8)annulenediyl)uranate(III), K{sup +}((C{sub 8}H{sub 8}){sub 2}U){sup {minus}}, and the 1,1{prime}-dimethyl compound is described. 1,1{prime}-Di-tert-butylneptunocene(IV) and -plutonocene(IV) and the potassium salts of the corresponding reduced compounds have been prepared. The {sup 1}H NMR spectrum of the plutonocene shows temperature-independent paramagnetism; the other compounds show normal temperature-dependent paramagnetism. Mixtures of each of the bis((8)-annulenediyl)actinide(IV) compounds with the corresponding actinate(III) derivatives show rapid electron exchange on the NMR time scale. 17 refs., 6 figs.
