Adsorption of surfactants on AG-3 carbon

There has been a fairly large number of publications concerned with adsorption of organic substances from aqueous solutions on carbon adsorbents. However, there have been relatively few studies of the adsorption of surfactants on active carbons used in purification of waste waters. It is shown that the compact-monolayer state is attained only in adsorption of a cationic surfactant (a substance containing an electron-acceptor group interacting with functional groups of the adsorbent surface), whereas in the cases of the AS and NS studied (which do not contain such groups) the functional groups of the adsorbent surface shield a part of the surface on which water molecules may become attached by hydrogen bonds.
